I want you to close your eyes. Take yourself back to when you were young and visiting grandma and grandpa’s house. You find an old photo album on the shelf in the living room. You open it up and see a photo of your dad or your mom. Their siblings, their dog at the time, what their house used to look like. The weird clothes they were wearing, how they had their hair, what they were even doing in the photo. It’s almost like you’re there with them.
I don’t know about you, but that is one of my favorite things to do even now as an adult, look through old photos and albums. Admiring them, feelings of nostalgia race through my mind.
Fast forward to now- we will get to show our children videos and photos of their early stages of life right from our phones. They will have the opportunity to scroll through albums and hear themselves and see themselves at every stage of their lives. How COOL is that!?
I believe there is a time and a place for the classic, posing, all dressed up kind of photos. And for some, they enjoy that style of photography. However…
I believe there is so much beauty in the mundane, in everyday life.
Cooking with your kids, baking with your kids, reading to your kids, letting them jump on your bed just once to capture some genuine smiles and laughter, allowing the kids to be kids and be themselves in the comfort of their own home, own backyard or favorite park to play at. They may not be the most perfect photos, but they will be the photos your kids look back on and think,” Wow, I remember that day!!” or “Oh my gosh, that was my favorite park!” or “I remember that shirt!!! I remember that toy, it was my prized possession!”
Documenting your family, your home, YOU, exactly how you are right here and right now.
That is what my soul craves, to photograph you as you are!
I believe that documenting your family in this way is important because one day it will be literally all you have to remember the little things in your life, in your kids’ lives.
And I know that whoever is reading this isn’t blind to what is happening in this world we live in. So, why wait? Take the leap, make the investment, and take the photos. You will not regret it and neither will those little humans in your life.
